⛰ NGX Consignment Policies & Procedures 🛶


Please read through our consignment policies below. By consigning at Nantahala Gear Xchange (NGX), you agree to abide by the policies and procedures laid out before you. Click here for a copy of our Consignment Policy Agreement.


🤝 What Is Consignment?

Consignment is a mutually beneficial partnership between the consignor (you) and an authorized seller (NGX). We sell your quality outdoor adventure gear on your behalf at our store, splitting the sale proceeds with you. NGX does not purchase your items outright or offer trades. You are welcome to pick up any unsold items from us any time after the initial 30 days


💰 Our Consignment Payout Rates

NGX operates on a standard 50/50 split for all sold items, regardless of the price.

  • Consignors receive 50% of the item’s final selling price if paid by check (or your standard
  • Consignors receive 60% of the item’s final selling price if paid in NGX Store Credit.

🗓 Pricing, Discounting, and Expiration

Our goal is to sell your gear, not store it. Selling price is initially determined by NGX staff, considering the item's condition and current market value. We utilize a progressive, monthly discount system to ensure consistent sales flow and healthy inventory turnover

Discounting Schedule:

On the first day of each month, the selling price of all consigned items is automatically reduced based on how long they have been in the store:

First 30 Days 0%
Month 2 (Day 31–60) 10%
Month 3 (Day 61–90) 25%
Month 4 (Day 91–120) 50%

*NGX reserves the right to reduce prices further for store-wide sales or promotions.


Item Expiration:

Consigned items that haven't been sold after 150 days (5+ months) become the property of NGX to be sold, donated to a local non-profit organization, or disposed of as NGX sees fit. It is your responsibility to monitor your unsold consigned items.


📝 How To Consign Your Gear With Us

  1. Prepare Your Items & Review Acceptance Guidelines:
    • Consigned items must be clean, odor-free, and in usable condition.
    • Item Limit: We accept a maximum of 5 items per consignee per week.
    • Before bringing your items in, please review the "Gear & Apparel Acceptance Guide" section on our website to check what we are currently accepting and not accepting.
  2. Item Condition and Preparation Fees:
    • If an item requires basic cleaning or preparation before being placed on the sales floor, a $10 cleaning fee will be assessed and deducted from the consignee’s final payout.
    • If an item requires minor repairs to be functional and saleable, a repair fee will be assessed, and you will be notified prior to the repair being done.
  3. Item Inspection & Drop-Off:

    There is no need to make an appointment. We ask that you visit our store at least 30 minutes before our scheduled closing.

    • Inspection Time: Please allow some time for our staff to conduct a full inspection of your consigned items upon drop-off; larger items like tents and sleeping pads will require a longer assessment period.
    • New Consignors: If this is your first time consigning, please allow a few additional minutes.
    • Post-Acceptance Review: While our staff performs a detailed review upon intake, we reserve the right to contact you for retrieval if a significant flaw or imperfection is discovered after the initial acceptance.

NGX Right of Refusal & Inventory Management

Nantahala Gear Xchange (NGX) reserves the right to refuse any item for any reason. Please be patient and kind to our staff during the inspection process. If an item is declined, it is not necessarily a judgment on its quality; it may simply mean:

  • The item is from a brand we do not currently accept.
  • We are currently overstocked in that specific type of gear.

As a small store with limited space, we must manage our inventory closely. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to reference the "Gear & Apparel Acceptance Guide” section on our website to see what we are currently accepting as inventory needs can change quickly.


💳 Payment & Item Status

At NGX, we want to make sure getting your earnings is easy! You can choose between two payout paths:

  1. Build Your Balance: Let your funds grow in your account to use as store credit for your next find. You also receive an extra 10% when you choose this option.
  2. Monthly Auto-Check: We automatically cut a check by the 10th of each month for the previous month’s sales (for balances over $10).

Quick Tips:

*Checks are available for pickup between the 10th and 15th; after the 15th, we’ll pop them in the mail for you.

It is the consignor’s responsibility to check on the sales status of merchandise. Consignors can check the status of their items and account balance by logging into their account on our website at any time.
